Dear Friends,

Thank you all for your outpouring of love and support. Your prayers are greatly needed as Kenya continues to struggle with violence, inflation and government instability. My thoughts and prayers in March and early April centered on the flooding of the Red River in North Dakota and Minnesota. Unfortunately, my sister and her husband of Moorhead, MN, Pam and Jon Johnson, lost their home and many of their belongings in the flood. They had many Christian brothers and sisters who spent many hours and hard labor lending a hand in the flood fighting, and then moving over a dike after the battle was lost. I felt very far away here in Kenya. but God is always there with us in our troubles. Many Kenyan sisters and brothers have been praying for the people in Fargo-Moorhead.

The ministry here in Nakuru is surging on ahead. Travis Klingforth, our team leader, took a vision casting group to Mbale, Uganda in order for them to see Discipling for Development in action. As they visited there and on their return, they are asking for more teaching on the principles and basics of D4D. It has been decided that we will hold a week long "Foundations" workshop at the end of June. Unfortunately, Lydia and Travis Klingforth will be returning to the US for home assignment on May 7. This leaves Susan Kamau, Loice Kabaki and myself to organize and present the workshop. We will invite a trainer from Uganda to help us with the presentation. This seems like an overwhelming task at this point, but God is faithful and the one that is truly in charge.

Projects that I am working on to share as income generating are a chicken egg incubator and wool spinning. I built an incubator off of plans on the internet for about $45. Currently one day old chicks are sold for $1.09 each. The incubator can hold 50 eggs and ideally 60% should hatch. My first batch is currently incubating, but my grade rooster died and so these eggs were fertilized by a local rooster. I have purchased anouther grade rooster and the next batch will be grade layers. If I have success with these projects, I can share them with women in the community as a way to generate income. I have dreams of trying small scale fish farming, but I don't know if I will accomplish this before I leave in November.

Praise God for the highest month of donations in February. I was able to retire the entire ministry debt from 2008. Unforturnately, I have not been able to be reimbursed for any of the ministry expenses in 2009, because there has not been enough money in the account. The biggest expenses are the monthly stipends for Susan and Loice and travel. However, the upcoming workshop in June will be a significant expense. I will also have shipping expenses when I return to the US in November. Please keep these financial concerns in your prayers. It is difficult to be here and then not have the financial means to carry on the ministry.

I am so grateful to see God at work here in Kenya. Thank you for joining with me in this ministry. Our Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, went forward at an evangelistic crusade at the end of March. Pray that God will work on the hearts of the leaders of Kenya.

Love in Christ,

Deb Walker
